Yi Zhen (Joyce Rosa) She, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2025, in Altadena, California, at the age of 92.

Joyce was born on August 29, 1933, in Shanghai, China and the first daughter of the late Ernest Zai and Wei-Chu Lee. She was a straight “A” student and graduated from the University of Shanghai with a dentistry degree, Due to government inflexibility she was unable to perform in the profession that she studied for many years to achieve, though she ultimately chose not to practice in the field. She immigrated to California, USA, in 1981 along with her late husband, Zhang Jia (James) Liang, and her daughter, Margaret Liang.

Faith played a significant role in Joyce’s life, as she was a devoted Catholic and attended Catholic schools throughout her childhood. She attended church daily before she went to work at Queen’s Bakery as a part-time cake decorator, full-time cashier, and entry clerk in Chinatown.

Upon retirement, Joyce's greatest joy was caring for her precious granddaughters, Sherrene and Katrina Tan. She became their constant presence, providing rides to and from school and comforting them with her delicious daily meals.

She left her family with fond memories.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Altadena, California and the Catholic Requiem Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, California.
