Obituary

Robert Canez of East Los Angeles passed away on July 26, 2026, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was 97 years old.

Robert was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona. He lived in East Los Angeles for over 70 years.

Robert worked in the steel fabrication business for many years - - first as an employee and then as the owner of his own business. He was highly skilled in his trade and he loved to work.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Stella (Bravo) Canez, and by his sons Manuel and Raymond. He is survived by his daughter, Cecilia Zimmermann of Upper Saddle River, N.J., his daughter Sandra Bustamante and son, Ricardo Canez, both of East Los Angeles; his son Adam Canez of Geronimo, Oklahoma, and his son Leonard Zamora.

Robert leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved him dearly.

Robert was the beloved head of this large family. He was happiest when the family gathered at his house for dinner and drinks. Even in later years, when he was not able to participate in the parties as much as he did when he was younger, Robert was delighted to have everyone together.

Robert will be missed greatly by his family. But they are comforted knowing that he lived a very long and full life and that he held to his Catholic faith until the end.
