Penny Leslie Farmer, affectionately known as Henrietta, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, in Seal Beach, California at the age of 86. Born on August 10, 1939, in Spokane, Washington, Penny dedicated her life to education, serving as the personal director of the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 30 years. Her commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for students and staff alike left a lasting impact on countless lives within the educational community.

Penny was cherished by her beloved spouse, John Farmer, with whom she shared a life filled with love and companionship in Seal Beach. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home. Her family was her pride and joy; she is survived by her son Tony Farmer, who, along with his partner Susan Spratt, resides in Brooklyn, New York, and her daughter Laura Farmer, who is married to Dan Adams and lives in Burbank, California.

Penny’s legacy continues through her grandsons, Francis and Ossian Farmer, both of whom reside in Boulder, Colorado. She also opened her heart to her step-grandsons, Atticus and Prosper Wachsler of Brooklyn, New York, embracing them as her own.

In addition to her immediate family, Penny is survived by her sister Norma Jeanne Durkheimer of Scottsdale, Arizona, and her brother Butch Oglivy of Portland, Oregon. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, who will hold her memory dear.

Penny Leslie Farmer was a remarkable woman whose passion for education and dedication to her family were evident in everything she did. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
