Nicando Muro, age 72, was born in Villa Guerrero, Jalisco, Mexico on November 7, 1942 and entered into eternal rest in Pasadena, California on December 13, 2014.
His work and family were the two most important things in his life. He came to this country in 1966 and found his gift for botany when he began working for the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens. He not only was a full-time gardener for the Huntington, but also ran his own gardening side-business. In order to provide for his family he worked 6 days a week, sunrise to sunset for over 45 years. His shifts at the Huntington would ended, but his workday only ended with the setting sun, providing gardening services to countless clients, family and friends around the community. His talents did not merely end at possessing a green thumb. He was a self-taught electrician, plumber and woodworker who worked jobs for family, friends or strangers, many times accepting no tender in return.
When not beautifying the community, he enjoyed spending his few leisurely hours with his wife, Maria, of 43 years and family. He enjoyed grilling and the music of Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching boxing, classic movies and nature documentaries.
He was a loving father and wonderful husband, as well as a hard-working man. He touched many peoples’ lives wether they were family, friends, co-workers, or those he had just met for the first time. He was a truly humble man with a playful sense of humor who was dedicated to helping others never expecting anything in return.
Nicando is survived by his loving wife Maria De Jesus Muro from Temple City, daughter Ruth Muro (Jose) Martinez of Sylmar, daughter Adriana (Tim) Niestler of Azusa, son Edgar (Maria) Muro of Arcadia, and daughter Lorena Muro of Temple City. He Also leaves behind 5 grandchildren as well as his siblings Guadalupe Duenas of San Gabriel, Angela Marin of Azusa, Sara Muro of Palm Springs, Eugenia Valenzuela of San Gabriel, Francisco Muro of Pomona, Jesus Muro of San Gabriel, Robertina Muro Cortez of Arcadia, Erindira Viramontes of Baldwin Park and Louis Muro of Glendora.
