Mariano Tadeo Lumanlan was born to Regina and Eleuterio Lumanlan on December 8, 1933 in the Philippines. He entered into eternal rest on January 16, 2016 at his home in Montebello, California. He was 82 years old.
Mariano is survived by his loving wife Jeanette Salonga of Montebello, California and his 6 children: daughter Helen (Michael) Stephens of Utah, daughter Regina (Ed) Segawa of Fullerton, daughter Arleen (Melecio) Dollentas of Diamond Bar, daughter Alice Chee of Corona, daughter Liza (Darrin) Domingo of San Pedro, and son Roy Lumanlan of Temple City. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren, eight stepgrandchildren, one great stepgrandchild, his sister Serena Lumanlan of the Philippines, his step children: Richard Salonga of the Philippines, Edward Salonga of the Philippines, Jenni Salonga of Canada and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mariano loved traveling with his family, doing maintenance work around the house, playing tennis, swimming, gardening, dancing, singing, and family gatherings.
Mariano received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He worked as an X-ray technician (Philippine National Railway Hospital in the Philippines, Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago, IL, and Veterans Hospital in Long Beach, CA) and as an accountant (Hush Puppies and Zenith) for many years. But his most fulfilling job was caring for people whether it’s family, friends, or neighbors. He cared dearly for his first wife, Natividad Lumanlan, until she went to our Heavenly Lord in May 2013.
Mariano loved to laugh and make people happy. He had a great sense of humor. He also had a very caring heart. He was always there to listen and help whether it was babysitting his grandkids; fixing his daughters’ cars; or maintaining his children’s homes (painting, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and gardening). He also loved teaching his children and neighborhood kids how to drive, swim and ride their bikes; taking out trash and mowing lawns for neighbors; or watching over elderly neighbors.
Mariano was diagnosed with lung cancer and started his radiation and chemotherapy in October 2015. However, early January 2016, the cancer had quickly spread to his brain and body. With all the strength he had, he fought the cancer until the very end.
Mariano is no longer suffering and fighting the pain he endured. He joined our Heavenly Father when he died peacefully at home with his family, relatives, and close friends on January 16, 2016.
