Magdalen Gomez peacefully passed away on September 15, 2026. Born on July 22, 1931, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend. She shared more than 67 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Alfred Gomez, and together they raised five children: Corrine, Diane, Arlene “Lizzy,” Steven, and Keith. Known affectionately as “Nena” to her family and “Maggie” to friends and colleagues, she touched countless lives with her warm heart, strong faith, caring nature, and welcoming spirit.
Born in East Los Angeles to Eugenia and Ventura Hernandez, Magdalen was the eighth of ten children. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1949 and worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District for more than 30 years before retiring. Always hardworking, she loved staying busy. Together, she and her husband established M & A Express, a successful family-owned charter bus business that they built through hard work, dedication, and a shared commitment to serving their community.
Magdalen was a woman of deep Catholic faith. Her faith was an important part of her life. She attended Mass daily for many years, and later in life continued attending weekly Mass with her family. She lived her life guided by the Word of God.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and a playful, competitive spirit that made every moment memorable. She filled the lives of those around her with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories.
Her greatest joys were her family and her Catholic faith. Through her love, kindness, strength, and devotion, she leaves behind a lasting legacy that will live on through generations. She will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
