Gregory Ralph Bonomo was born on Dec. 22, 1938, at The French Hospital, the oldest hospital in California. The family moved back to New York in 1941, when World War II broke out, and his dad was drafted. He lost his mother, Rose at age 11, then his father remarried his mother's younger sister, Ann, and they had two daughters, Rosanne and Rosemary. Gregor went to boarding school at St. Anne's for some of elementary school and all of high school. He then attended Manhattan College and St. Louis University Medical School. He did his internship and residency at Mass General in Boston, becoming a pediatric neurologist.
He served in the Air Force in Clovis, NM. He married Dellamarie Gibbons in 1964, and they adopted three wonderful children, Laura, Christopher, and Michael. He then met and married Jana Erickson, who had a daughter Jennifer, and they were together for almost 50 years. Gregor moved to California in 1972 and spent the rest of his life there, much of it in Long Beach, where he enjoyed being close to the ocean and walking his dogs every day. Gregor was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and book collector, and was knowledgeable about almost any subject you could imagine. He loved hockey and Formula One racing. He had flair and style, and was known for his bow ties and his Hawaiian shirts. He had lifelong friendships. He was one of a kind, and his family and friends all adored him. Life will never be the same without him for his loving wife, his children, his sisters, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the extended family whose lives he touched so deeply.
