Obituary

Dorothy Mora went to her forever home in Heaven on August 4, 2023, she was 93 years young.  Dorothy was born June 2, 1930, in Torrance, California, to Francisco Mora and Lupe Osuna.

Dorothy graduated from Torrance High School. She was 21 years old when she enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 and received an honorable discharge in 1954.  Dorothy gave birth to her beloved children, Frank and Maria Medina. They were the love of her life and brought her much joy, and they loved her dearly and were proud to call her mom.  Sadly, her son passed away in 1972.

Dorothy worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services for 35 years before retiring in June 1992.  Soon after she retired, she became a volunteer hospice worker for 2 years.  Shortly after, she became “nana” to one-year-old twin boys, Jason and Corey Hedy, as well as their brother Billy.  She enjoyed spending time with them, going out to eat, and just visiting.  They were a very special part of her life.

She attended Calvary Chapel Church in Downey for over 20 years, where she served as a Greeter and a volunteer worker for the church's student bookstore for several years.

She enjoyed going out to eat, working in her garden, and traveling (her most memorable trip to Jerusalem, Israel, where she was baptized).  She loved sports! She enjoyed watching playoff games while eating and cheering (loudly) with her daughter, friends, and family.

Dorothy was well known for her beautiful, infectious smile and warm, caring heart. She was loved and known by many for her compassion, caring heart, and generous giving.  She loved helping people.  Family, friends, and even strangers could count on her to offer fervent, faithful prayers to God for them in their time of need.  Dorothy was a prayer “warrior” and loved to worship.  She loved God with all her heart, mind, and soul.

She is survived by her daughter, Maria Medina, and her sister Annie Luna, 91, of Torrance, California.  She is…and will be forever loved and deeply missed. Forever in my heart, mama…one day, we will be together….forever with our Lord and King!
