Beatriz “Bea” Macias was born November 11, 1927, in Dallas,
Texas, to Agustin M. Cervantes and Angela Zamudio Cervantes. She
was the ninth of 15 children. She passed away peacefully on April, 30,
2019 at the age of 91, with her children by her side.
Bea was married to her husband Francisco Bustillos Macias for 50
years, who predeceased her in 2007. She will be lovingly remembered
by her children, Miran (Thomas) Johnson, Francisco “Frank” (Norma),
Fernando and Marisela, grandchildren, Jessica Macias Dragovich and
Michael Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Dellet Dragovich and Rosa
Bea Dragovich. She will also be fondly remembered by her sister Consuelo Cervantes, sister in-law Consuelo Papadopolo, and several nieces
and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Bea moved to Los Angeles in the 1940s, and was later joined by her
younger brother, Salvador “Sammy” Cervantes. The siblings shared a
small apartment in Echo Park, and Bea worked in a nearby factory making luggage. Bea was friends with her upstairs neighbors, Belia and
Vicente Macias, and noticed that Vicente’s handsome brother regularly
visited them. At the invitation of Belia, Bea accompanied her to a family
wedding in February, 1955. At the wedding, she was introduced to the
handsome young man she spied from her apartment window, Francisco
Macias. After dating for almost two years, they married in a civil ceremony on January 6, 1957, in Los Angeles, California. Three years later, in June 1961, they purchased a house in El Sereno where they raised
their four children and she lived happily until her passing.
Beatriz became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and symbolized her dedication to Jehovah on July 16, 1971, at the “Divine Name” District Assembly (Regional Convention). She was a loyal servant of Jehovah in
proclaiming his kingdom and served in the El Sereno Northeast congregation for many years, and most recently, the North Highland Park congregation.
“But as for you, go on to the end. You will rest, but you will stand up for your lot at the end of the days.” (Daniel 12:13)
Beatriz is now at rest awaiting the Resurrection
to be reunited with her loved ones
