Anna (Goges) Tseklenis, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of the Downey community, passed away peacefully in her home on September 12, 2026, at the age of 95.

Born on July 17, 1931, in Boston, Massachusetts, Anna was a proud first-generation Greek American whose life was shaped by faith, family, and friends. In 1953, shortly after graduating from Simmons College, she married G. Harold Tseklenis. They lived in St. Thomas & Fort Ord near Monterey while Harold was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, before finally settling in Downey, California. Throughout Harold’s career at Fluor, they lived in various countries around the world, including Sweden, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Germany, but Downey was always home.

Dating back to the 1960’s, Anna and Harold immersed themselves in the Downey community, while volunteering and supporting a variety of non-profit institutions, performing arts organizations, and art museums. Together, they were generous patrons of the Downey Museum of Art, Downey Symphony Orchestra, Downey Civic Light Opera, and the Downey Theatre, championing creativity, culture, and public access to the arts. Their voices were steady and passionate—an enduring force for artistic enrichment in the city they loved.

Anna was also a longstanding member of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, where she and Harold helped nurture the Greek community in Downey. Anna devoted herself to volunteering with the Downey Assistance League, making a change in the community.

Anna is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold and her son, David, who passed away in February 2026. Anna is survived by her treasured grandchildren Kris, Karrison, and Shaun, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.

The funeral service is at 9:30 am on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, 10830 Downey Ave, Downey, CA 90241. Internment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, CA. Makaria to follow at Saint George Hall.
