Abner Eliezer Aguilar, 33 was born on December 17, 1983 in Los Angeles, California to Elmer and Eva Aguilar and began watch at heaven's gate January 19, 2017 in Duarte, California.

Abner was a veteran of the United States Marines Corps earning an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Corporal and earned the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, 2 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation, Certificate of Appreciation, Rifle Marksman Badge and Pistol Marksman Badge for years of bravely fighting for our freedom. After his discharge from the Marine Corps, Abner served proudly with the Army Reserves and reached the rank of Sergeant. More recently he was a boilermaker for a manufacturing company.

“It’s either me or him... and it sure as hell ain’t gonna be me!” With full resolve, Abner penned these words about his adversary. His adversary? Leukemia. It was an 18-month battle fraught with a relapse, several rounds of chemotherapy, and lost time away from his loved ones, but like a true marine, he fought it courageously to the end. Early during his hospitalization, a sassy nurse assigned to his care quipped, “Who dis famous guy getting all dis kind of luxury treatment? Dis Obama?” Even while in the hospital, his charisma knew no bounds. Several of the hospital staff went out of their way to appease him and would sneak in gourmet coffee and Taco Bell.

Though his magnetic charisma may have been his most patent trait, there is probably no better window into his life than how he cared for his two children Dahlia and Ace. He spent time with them playing miniature golf, visiting museums, watching movies, frequenting the library, and hiking. Veteran’s Day, Christmas, and New Year’s ranked as his most favorite holidays because these were days where the extended family would gather in celebration as one. On these days, he basked in the warm glow of his family and was steadfast in prioritizing his loyalty to ‘la familia’ above all. Loyalty to country, God and family --- these ideas served as guideposts that oriented Abner’s life.

Abner is survived by his loving family:Wife Maria Aguilar and children Ace and Dahlia Aguilar all of Alhambra, California. Beloved Son of Elmer and Eva Aguilar and Brother of Edwin Aguilar.
